Newsela is a news-as-literacy platform focused on building student reading comprehension by providing high-quality news articles and real-time assessments for students in grades 2-12.
Newsela features high-interest articles on everything from current events to myths and legends to literature and science. NCSU has a paid subscription for grades 3-12 for Newsela ELA, Newsela Social Studies, Newsela Science and SEL.

When You Log In For the First Time...
Go to newsela.com.
Click Join Now.
Newsela will ask you a few questions about your role and your school:
*If you are a teacher or administrator please select I’m an Educator for full access to your subscription. (Selecting “I’m a student”’ will restrict access to features and content . If you are an educator who signed up as a student in error, please contact Newsela.)
Click Google.
Enter your School/District Google credentials.
Make sure to use your school email address. This helps Newsela connect you to the correct school.
If you’ve created a Newsela account in the past with an old email address, Newsela will give you the opportunity to merge accounts.
Once you respond to the questions, you’ll receive a verification email from Newsela. If you don’t receive a verification email, contact Newsela.
Logging In
Go to newsela.com.
Click Google.
Click Sign In.
Enter your School/District Google credentials.
Go to Classes by clicking your name in the upper right-hand corner, clicking on Settings and selecting the Classes tab.
Click Create a Class.
Enter the class name, grade, and subject, then click Create Class.
